Hilton Falls has all the makings of a great hike and a rewarding adventure. The adventure starts at the information centre where you can pick up your guide map, look at some pictures, and see some of the natural items found in the area along the pathway to your destination: the falls.
After your departure from the information centre, you will have a very enjoyable 3km hike to the falls if you make a beeline for it. But there are other trails that the more adventurous can explore. The initial climb up the hill to the trails is not stroller-safe and is probably the most challenging portion of the hike. Don't be discouraged—it is worth the little climb.
Once past the initial incline, enjoy the sounds of the birds and trees, and the sight of the vibrant natural beauty around you. And know that this is just a taste of things to come. As you get closer and closer to the falls the landscape gets more and more beautiful.
Once you arrive at the falls, take your time and enjoy it. There is a viewing station that will keep you a safe distance from the 10-metre-high falls. But some adventurers will abandon caution for the experience of hopping over the guard rail and walking under the falls. Note that if you choose to do so, you will get wet.
If you choose to continue your hike along the escarpment past the falls, the wooded area is certainly worth exploring. Visitors can easily spend three or four hours at Hilton Falls adventuring. And being only an hour away from the city of Toronto, it is a trek everyone should make at least once.
Hilton Falls will truly provide a great day in the country.
