Located in St. Catharines in the heart of the Niagara grape growing region, Port Dalhousie is just right for the person seeking a relaxing time at the beach, strolls on the shoreline of Lake Ontario, or a ride on a 5 cent carousel.
Why only 5 cents a ride? The carousel was carved between 1898 and 1905 in Brooklyn, New York and was acquired by the city of St. Catharines. A mandate to keep a carousel ride at the low price of 5 cents was made. The carousel itself has a very interesting history. It has also been re-furbished with fresh paint for all 69 animals and a $10,000 restoration of the music player.
As for the beach, it is usually warm in the summer months, which allows for a nice refreshing dip. Visitors will also find a lot of sun bathing going on as well. There are change rooms and washrooms available. Adults of all ages will enjoy the waterfront paths, boats, light houses, and local shopping. The kids will enjoy a fantastic park with swings and the playground; very kid friendly.
There is a lot to see and do at Port Dalhousie and it is worth a visit.
