It is rare to find a nature reserve so close to a major metropolitan area and right on the shoreline of a highly populated area. Yet the Rattray Marsh manages to be clean and quiet as well as provide an enjoyable nature stroll.
Every day, all year round, the kid friendly Rattray Marsh hiking trail provides an opportunity to escape to a lush environment surrounded by trees with a dash of animals such as rabbits, turtles, frogs, raccoons, numerous birds and every once in a while, a fox or deer. The 94 acre marsh is also right on the shore line of Lake Ontario which on a calm day provides a great chance at stone skipping.
The pathways are very safe and since biking is not allowed, walkers can move around without potential for high speed traffic. And there are places where kids can go off the path to make discoveries of their own. There are observation decks which allow for great photo opportunities of the swans or other wild life.
The Rattray Marsh is an all round relaxing and enjoyable adventure for everyone.
