There is something magical about experiencing a day where you can walk across a suspension bridge as high as the Eiffel Tower, hike through a beautiful forest, climb through some deep caves and caverns, and take a tractor or train ride through the country.
The Scenic Caves is by far one of the best outings in Southern Ontario. Located in Collingwood, near Blue Mountain Ski Resort, the Scenic Caves truly provides something special for everyone. Fresh air for everyone. Amazing views of Georgian Bay for everyone. Kid friendly. Fun challenges for adults. And an entire day can be spent there for the cost of a night out at the movies.
The caves are some of the most beautiful in all of Canada and they are extremely well maintained. There are some places that will make even the seasoned adventurer a little uncomfortable such as taking a look off the cliff straight down 18 - 24 metres. Or attempting to get through Fat Man's Misery where the narrowest part is only 36 centimetres across; better save lunch for after that cave. But there are enough stairways and banisters that everyone can enjoy the adventure.
As for the fun stuff for kids; the playground puts most others to shame. There are climbing walls, rope climbing gyms, and many other excellent apparati. There is also a train ride that kids can take solo on a 10 to 15 minute tour around the property with a real train engineer giving them all the insights to the sights around them.
For those who want to experience the ultimate adventure; how about a zip line ride right off the cliff. You can do that too.
Although it is a little out of the way for most people, it is certainly worth the drive out in the morning for the full day of nature filled fun. It is a deal at twice the admission price.
